A rig for a doodle

I'm trying to find an easy and good rig for my characters,

Rust is your friend

Hello,i've make in photoshop some test maps for little boilerbot..i like rusty style^^
They are still not definitive..probably i'll modify the maps in future..
For make this kind of maps usually i keep in a layer the original metal,and in another layer rust image,then with a kit of rusty,grunge,damage brushes and the erase tool i modify the original metal map.Is not difficult.(Obviusly you need a uvmap to paint)
Most used tools:eraser,dodge,burn,stamp tool and some patience.

SwaT Snail.UVMap

The uvmapping is complete.For test the continuity of the mapping (really important for avoid "texture stress" after the application of a color map)is good habit use a checkerboard texture.^^

The Little Bird Project.MyEntry^^



From the briefing:


"The basic idea behind this project is to design a bird charcater. Draw, doodle,
paint or spray a bird (it doesn?t matter what kind of bird and in which
way of action: flying, sitting, sleeping, eating -- it?s up to you).

We are planning the do a big poster with all the bird characters and an exhibition.
The poster will be sold at the exhibition and in an online store and we'll donate the profit to UNICEF
for their work against Child labour. We think a bird is a good statement and
symbol for freedom. "

I think this is a great project..
Still work in progress but this is the basic idea of my contribution ^^

SWAT Snail up..+EasyShellTut

Hello ^^
the basic snail model is near to be complete..next steps are add the details and start to create some "SWAT" equipment!


--Easy Shell Tut--

Usually is not so hard create a snail shell..overall because lot of software have the seashell tool..but btw if you've found in trouble on make one...here a simple tut for a eazy shell ^^

1.Create a spiral spline..



2.This step could be slighty different for any 3d software.If you use Lightwave 3d i advise to use the great (and FREE) plug-in PICTRIX C_Worm_Lt,it's great for any kind of extrusion work!
For use it just keep the spline created in step one in the background and activate the plugin in a foreground layer,then play with settings.
If you don't use Lightwave try to to get a similar extrusion like the image below!



3.Just move points and polygons with a good offset to get a good result.Use some reference to work well.Et voilà,nothing hard isn't?



My last advice (and maybe the most important) is to create the UV before extruding or mapping your shell will be really hard!
If you'll use "Worm LT" don't worry the Uvmap creation will be automatic! ^^

Little Creature_Experimantal Shading

Some shading and lighting experiments on a simply model
for create a funky effect to a character^^



The surfaces are flatter "funky" colors with a little amount of luminosity like 10%-15%
the rest is only lighting work.check the image

With some variatiton on colors and lighting you can get some nice results,about my little moster this is the final result...

Work on a gradient on a incidente angle for get more smooth effect...or you can do it in photoshop..btw simply make some experiments!

New Character in progress..
Is inspired from Luchalibre a comic drawed by Muttpop,check his blog!
The character name is Dr.Destruction and is the leader of the LES FORMIDABLES,the first group of french herous..

IK setup,with a character like robot is a good kind of rig.
The rig down there is only for make a base walkcicle,for more complex animation still need some more controller bones^^.



The animation is not so smooth cus i've take only half of all the frame to a better compression for web.

Laputa.Robot.Uv4Dummies

I've found the time to create the Uv for this model..
UV mapping is a 3D modelling process of making a 2D map representing a 3D model.In contrast to "X", "Y" and "Z", which are the coordinates for the original 3D object in the modelling space, "U" and "V" are the coordinates of this transformed map of the surface.


In the image down here a more easy way to understand what a Uvmap is.^^


Sometimes the trouble of making Uv are wrong distortion and proportions of the maps.For fix this usually i do a pattern like this in Photoshop and use it as a texture...

...for check a correct continuity and right proportions of the single parts of the model:

The result up there is enought good for the next (and more cool) step...paint textures in Photoshop!
